Weaving with Disabilities
Therapeutic Benefits of SAORI Weaving
SAORI is a positive and empowering creative outlet for all people, including those with disabilities. Through skill-based learning, SAORI allows practitioners to express themselves with confidence and joy. Therapeutic benefits of SAORI include improved motor skills, social interaction and self-direction.
SAORI is practiced in therapeutic environments all over the world, including Japan and other Asian countries, Europe, and North America. Organizations that practice SAORI include schools, special education programs, adult education centers, and rehabilitation centers for people with disabilities.
SAORI looms offer a variety of accessories specifically designed to empower people with physical disabilities, allowing them to weave independently or with minimal assistance.
Please contact Weaving Arts Austin to learn more about introducing SAORI in a therapeutic environment.
Introducing People with Disabilities to SAORI
While our studio is not handicap accessible, we will always do our best to accommodate people with disabilities. If you are a parent, guardian, or therapist who would like to introduce your loved one or patient to SAORI, please contact us to discuss your needs and schedule a studio visit.
Because SAORI looms are portable, we are able to bring looms off-site when necessary.
