How do classes work?
Classes are held throughout the week in a private studio setting. The studio is a friendly, creative, and welcoming community. Students work on projects at their own pace. Whether you just want to unwind for a couple of hours, or you have a larger project in mind, we will always do our best to accommodate you. Due to space constraints, studio reservations are required.
Please call or email the studio with any questions and to schedule your class.
Introduction to SAORI Weaving - $40
Experience SAORI weaving in this introductory class. The loom will be warped and ready to use, so students may begin weaving immediately. Students will learn the basics of operating a SAORI loom, including advancing the warp and winding bobbins. Students should expect to weave independently during the class, with gentle guidance from the instructor. At the end of class, students may opt to take their project home or continue working on it in a follow-up class.
Introductory Class is 2 hours long; $10/half-hour thereafter. Materials fee is additional.
Please complete the New Student Profile prior to attending class.
Advanced Class - $144+
The Advanced Class allows students to create their own project from start to finish. Working with the instructor, students are introduced to the art of warping, including creating a plan, designing a warp and dressing a SAORI loom. Students will begin to develop a clearer understanding of the mechanics of the SAORI loom, and how to use the loom as a creative partner. With increased confidence, students will be encouraged to approach their work in a non-linear way, exploring the subtle sophistication and complexity of the simple weave. Tools and techniques exclusive to SAORI will be introduced. Ongoing projects will be held at the studio.
This class is strongly recommended for those considering purchasing a SAORI loom.

Weaving Arts Austin is a registered SAORI Weaving Studio. In keeping with the SAORI philosophy, students are not separated by experience, age or ability. Instead, we all weave together, sharing and learning from each other.
